Fallout 4 Crafting

Cooking Station

This page shows food products which can be made at a Cooking Station, the ingredients needed, and the benefits.

While you can cook on any Cooking Station in the Commonwealth, you will not be able to make most things unless you carry a lot of ingredients with you, in which case you should have just cooked them before you left home (likewise, other workstations).

If a Cooking Station is in a settlement with which you have created a Supply Line to share supplies, you will not see the cooking ingredients from other settlements in the Cooking Stations inventory, but when you go to cook a recipe, the shared ingredients will show up.

As a rule, almost every wild plant and every part of critters can be useful, so pick up all of them. Ironically, if a plant's name starts with "wild", it is cannot be used when cooking. For example, Mutfruit can be used, but not Wild Mutfruit.

+40 HP means that the item restores 40 Health Points.
+15 Max HP for 1 hour means that it gives you extra health to burn for 1 hour.
+15 AP for 1 hour means that it gives you extra Action Points for 1 hour.
If you are not a heavy user of VATS, this benefit is marginal.
Restores 50 AP - You have to be really desperate for AP (used in VATS and for running) to stop to use this
since AP gradually restores on its own.

Substitutes for Stim Paks:

Stim Paks have the advantage of being zero weight, so that is an advantage to carrying them if you have no trouble finding enough them.

Purified Water restores 40 HP. If your settlements generate surplus water, you can use it in place of Stim Paks. On the other hand, Purified Water is used in a lot of cooking recipes. If you find yourself running short for cooking and you have a lot of cooked foods which restore health, use them instead.

Most of the cooked foods weigh 0.1 pound, but some weigh 0.5, and the weight can add up quickly, so just carry a couple of most of them and store the rest for later.

  • Mole Rat Chunks: +50 HP, +5 AP for 15 minutes.
  • Squirrel On A Stick: +45 HP (Squirrel Stew is a better use of squirrel bits.)
  • Iguana On A Stick: +40 HP
  • Mutt Chops: +40 HP
  • Noodle Cup (Soup): +40 HP (Dirty Water has better uses.)
  • Crispy Squirrel Bits: +35 HP (Squirrel Stew is a better use of Squirrel Bits.)
  • Grilled Radroach: +30 HP

The following restore larger amounts of HP with relatively minor side benefits.

Click here to get a printable list of just this section. It is in decreasing amount of HP.
During battles, this list makes it easier to find the amount of HP you need to replenish.

If you are able to create a large number of Refreshing Beverage at a Chemistry Station, it is better for restoring large amounts of HP because it does so instantly, plus it removes all rads and cures addictions at the same time.

Yao Guai Roast - Carrot, Tato, Yao Guai Meat
+210 HP, +10 melee damage for one hour.

Mirelurk Queen Steak - Queen Mirelurk Meat
     +200 HP, +2 Endurance for 1 hour.

Deathclaw Steak - Deathclaw Meat
+185 HP, +1 Agility (helps AP) for 1 hour.

Yao Guai Ribs - Yao Guai Mea
+164 HP, +15 Damage Resist for 1 hour.

Radstag Stew (Soup) - Gourd, Radstag Meat, Silt Bean, Vodka
+150 HP, +30 Energy Resist for 1 hour.

Radscorpion Steak - Radscorpion Meat
+150 HP, +25 Energy Resist for 1 hour.

Stingwing Filet - Stingwing Meat
     +130 HP, +1 Perception for 1 hour.

Bloodbug Steak - Bloodbug Meat
+105 HP, +15 Max HP for 1 hour (no big deal).

Ribeye Steak - Brahmin Meat
     +100 HP

Iguana Soup - Carrot, Dirty Water, Iguana Bits
     +95 HP

Cooked Softshell Meat - Softshell Mirelurk Meat
     +85 HP, +15 AP for 1 hour.

Roasted Mirelurk Meat - Mirelurk Meat
+70 HP, +10 AP increase for 30 minutes.

Vegetable Soup - Carrot, Dirty Water, Tato
+55 HP for 10 seconds, +25 Rad Resist for 1 hour.

Mirelurk Egg Omelette - Dirty Water, Mirelurk Egg
     +45 HP, +50 AP

The following restore HP and either cures radiation or adds radiation resistance.
In F4, Rads block some HP from being restored, so the Hound Chops are good to have in radioactive situations..
However, Hound Chops remove only a small amount of rads. Refreshing Beverage is better for large amounts.

Mutant Hound Chops - Mutant Hound Meat
     +60 HP, -50 Rads.

Baked Bloatfly - Bloatfly Meat
     +40 HP, +20 radiation resistance.

Although the following items restore a lot of HP, their main use is for the extra benefit, so save them for that use.
Rarely will you need more than 1 (if any) of these in a mission, so store the rest at home to keep carry weight down.

Mirelurk Cake - Mirelurk Egg, Mirelurk Meat, Oil, Razorgrain.
+140 HP, Breathe underwater for 30 minutes.
Razorgrain can be found around and you can plant a couple which will supply all you need..

Grilled Radstag - Radstag Meat
+120 HP, +25 Carry Weight for 1 hour. but Bufftats can be crafted at a chemistry station and let you carry more.

Radscorpion Egg Omelette - Purified Water, Radscorpion Egg.
+75 HP, Cures all addictions. but radscorpion eggs are hard to come by and Refreshing Beverage does the same thing+.

Squirrel Stew (Soup) - Bloodleaf, Carrot, Dirty Water, Squirrel Bits, Tato
+105 HP, +2% XP gain for 2 hours. While 2% doesn't seem like much, this is still a better use of Squirrel Bits than Crispy Squirrel Bits.

The following items do not (immediately) restore any HP but are otherwise useful.:

Deathclaw Egg Omelette - Blood Pack, Deathclaw Egg
Small Health Regen for 2 hours. Note that blood packs are also needed to craft Refreshing Beverage.

Tasty Deathclaw Omelette - Blood Pack, Carrot, Mutfruit, Deathclaw Egg, Purified Water
Small Health Regen and +50 Max Health for 2 hours.

Vegetable Starch (Adhesive) - Corn, Mutfruit, Purified Water, Tato
     Vegetable Starch scraps into Adhesive.

Because Adhesive is used to craft almost all weapon and armor mods as well as most Building items, this is an important way of getting more. To get the supplies for this, when planting Food for a settlement, you should concentrate on these plants, as well as adding enough Water Pumps to get excess water. (See Building Settlements for the advantages of using Pumps rather than Purifiers.)

Somerville Place has a garden of 18 stalks of corn which you can harvest every few days. Graygarden also grows corn, but only yields 5-6 ears. Breakheart Banks has a crop of 13. A produce shack near vault 81 has corn, but it does not regrow them.
